LA AutoShow 2006
Today we went to the LA AutoShow with two of my international friends, Peter and Ildy, who tipped us off about a week ago that it was coming up. We saw everything there was to see, skipping some of the less interesting (for us) things, such as the “brand new” SUVs - that to me don’t look any different than the ones on the road today. I was definately disappointed with the lack of concept cars and anything really new for 2007.
What I did like was that you could really get up IN the cars - even the actual brand new ones. Sure, there was also the rotating car-on-a-platform also, but for the most part, everything we wanted to sit down in and push buttons on, we could. Kris tried the new Pontiac Solstice to see if he could even sit down - unfortunately, he’s just a bit too tall for this new convertible car. We both got on in the Scion xA, and the other actual new car, the Toyota Yaris. This is a cute new car, that looks similar to the xA (I wouldn’t be surprised if it actually was basically the same car - it’s the same parent company anyway). Kris loved it, and I think it’s a good price for the new small car. I also hopped into a Mini, and my favorite, the BMW M3. We took lots of pictures which will be up in a couple days.
The coolest cars were on a “one car is all we have” display - the Bentley, the Ferrari and Maserati, the special designers cars like the Saleens, then Lambourghini, and I think the most impressive - the Bugati. Unfortunately these particular cars were not even on rotating platforms, so to be able to see the whole thing, you had to squeeze your way through 50 people at several points on the viewing platform. It was still very impressive to see these cars though, especially the Bugati.
