Wedding Planning Update #19B - Save the Date! (II)

Well, it’s been a while, but things are in the works and I’ll probably have a couple more updates to post within a week or so - about our registries, my first fitting, and a couple other things, but this particular post is going to be dedicated to talking about saving the date.

First of all, I just want to say that Kris’s mom did an awesome job of painting the lovely Forget-me-not flowers that appear on our save-the-date cards. They came out even better ON the actual cards then they did when we got the preliminary pdf version from Kris’s parents. It almost looks like the flowers were painted on each individual card, rather than being printed. And for that I must compliment Kris’s father, who helped put the design together and made sure the quality was the highest possible, since he is involved in the printing industry. Bob and Donna - thank you so much for your help!

MOST of the cards have been sent out or emailed…I’m still trying to gather a few last addresses. Also, we decided that not everyone was going to be sent an actual card, or even an email. Invitations will be fine for most people, especially those who know they are invited. However, what I think is funny is that a lot of people who have gotten their cards out here in Cali have told me, “Hey, I got your invitation!” I kinda laughed, because they also wondered why it hardly had any information on it. I had to explain that it was for them to “reserve the date” on their calendars, and also to let them know we’d like them to come from out of town…so they can start making travel arrangements. I thought it was kinda weird too, in this day and age, even the younger friends we have had never heard of the save-the-date cards, and in my mind, it’s almost standard fare.

Also, I did want to again compliment Kris’s parents. These same friends who have gotten the cards and let us know have made similar comments. “They’re really beautiful!” “It looks like the flowers were painted on the card - how did they do that?” And I’ve also been asked, “How did you come up with the idea?” Well, I know Donna and I were talking about what kind of flowers to base her painting on, and we both thought forget-me-knots were the perfect flowers for the theme of a save-the-date card. Then the wording just came to me, as if in a vision. I’m very happy with the way they came out, and everyone’s response to them.

And again, Kris and Christine’s wedding is going to be: Saturday, August 11, 2007!!!
