Announcing: Mary & Frank!

Mary and Frank! On Saturday, Kris and I attending the wedding of my friend and co-worker, Mary Lynden, and her now-husband, Frank. It was because of Mary last April that I started thinking about and trying on wedding gowns, and how I found my “it dress” - thanks to our our friend and co-worker Gwynn. In addition, I feel largely responsible for helping Mary pick and “set the date,” because when I asked what day she was thinking, I checked my planner to let her know that “February 3rd is a Saturday next year!” It has been an exciting and rewarding past few months, helping her plan, predicting my engagement, and finally comparing notes these last few months. I’m honored to have been a part of the process from almost the very beginning, and have been able to enjoy it with her through her wonderful ceremony and reception this past weekend.

More details: The ceremony was at the beautiful South Shores Church (a church that made me want to go to church!) overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It was a short, though beautiful ceremony - I cried during the vows. It was my first time ever seeing Frank, and I think he and Mary make a very cute couple. I was a bit offended at how few people actually attended the ceremony, but perhaps this was a mistake on my behalf because I thought Mary told me more people were coming. A “funny wedding moment” happened when they went to light the Unity Candle - the flame on it went out, which was followed briefly after by Mary’s candle taking a dive behind the altar. Of course, if that’s the worst thing that happens on your wedding day - you’re not doing too badly!

The reception did not start for three hours after the ceremony, so Kris and I headed home. He re-ironed his shirt, we watched some TV. Gwynn told us later when we met up at the Tivoli Terrace that she’d taken a nap! We waited outside for a while, then found our table inside after grabbing a glass of champagne. Gwynn and I and our dates were seated at the same table, but were a little apprehensive of who the “other people” at the table would be. I think there’s always this fear at weddings. Well, we had a really nice couple, Sherry and David, seated with us. I think it helped that the tables were very small - only 6-8 people. The six of us had a great time, joking around, and when we saw that it looked like everyone else was a bit solemn, we stated that we had the party table!

The food was served pretty much right after the guests of honor arrived and were introduced. We had to “hip, hip, HOORAY” them, which I thought was a bit cheesy, and Kris and I agreed that there is no way we are going to let our DJ do anything like that - the Seattle Supersonics have left the building… The food was great, and the toasts were good too. Maybe a bit too long, but you can’t control what other people are going to say. And we were having a good time, even dancing a bit together waiting in line for the chocolate fountain. We took a short break to find the restrooms - which were across the parking lot, and out in the cold! But we were back in time to witness the first dance, which Mary and Frank had choregraphed for them, and the father-daughter dance. Then my stomach took a turn for the worst, and unfortunately we had to cut the party short for ourselves. I was upset, of course, because I’d wanted to stay until the end, and had wanted to actually get to dance with Kris. Once we got home, Kris and I chatted about things we want or don’t want for our wedding.

Summation: Mary, we had a great time at your wedding. Thank you so much for inviting us!

  1. Hi Christine,
It was our pleasure to have you and Kris. Thanks so much for your excellent organizational skills and for reminding me that Feb. 3, was a Saturday. Without you, I don’t think I actually ever started to plan my wedding early. It would have been chaotic. Wishing you and Kris the best. Savor the moments, it is a great feeling and time will go by really fast.
I’m really sorry that you had to go home early. Yeah, I agree that the bathroom was far. It is something that I learned the day before the wedding. ‘Wish I could’ve done something about it.
