Little Sister’s Visit
So Laura came to Cali for her (and my) Spring Break. I’m not sure how it lines up - but it must have something to do with UCI being on the quarter system, and UDel’s spring semester starting so late. Whatever.
There were a few things that sucked about the week. First, (which I will post more about later) they were repaving our lovely road here in graduate housing, so they closed my parking lot. As in, we had no access to it for the entire week, and we had to find parking in other lots (that were overfull) and walk Laura’s suitcases halfway across the campus. Pain in the butt. Second, I had to work, but not a huge deal because I made Laura come to the lab with me, and I think she had a decent time there. Third, it rained or was majorly overcast all except the very last day she was here, and the poor thing came to California so she could get some sun. California, the sunshine state - WHY could you not provide???
In spite of all this, I think Laura had a good time. We went to Knott’s Berry Farm on Saturday, and then out drinking. On Sunday we went up to Hollywood, and as close to the sign as we dared. During the week, she came with me to the lab and I brought her to the beach mid-morning or afternoon, then picked her up after I was done for the day. On Wednesday night we headed out to Hermosa Beach for “Martinis and Manicures” which was a fab time. On Thursday, we took the lab golf cart out for a spin (and to take care of a couple campus-related errands). I KNOW Laura enjoyed that, she was laughing so much she almost fell out of the thing. It’s really too bad she had to leave on Friday, the only nice day. I helped her once again with a Genetics lab report - it was nice to see all her data in front of us, since it was a difficult lab to comprehend, instead of just talking about it over IM and the phone.
Finally, we didn’t kill each other - so that must say something towards both of us having a good time. Laura come back and visit soon!
